Well I am happy to report-- it's finished! The Tasha Tudor shawl has been completed, and it's even still winter! How about that? I think it came out well for a first time shawl. It's pretty much even, at any rate, and I love the soft lamb/alpaca blend that the yarn was made of. This shawl used two skeins, although I think the next shawl I make will be bigger, this is a nice shoulder warmer that falls to the middle of my back. The pattern was super simple and basic. You start with two stitches and the on the next row you yarn over the first stitch and yarn over the last stitch. You yarn over every other row and not only does it increase in a triangle shape naturally, it creates a simple sort of ruffley-scalloped edge.
I'm pleased that the color and shape are very reminiscent of the shawl Tasha was often photographed in. It'll be good for having to go outside first thing on chilly mornings. My animals have no patience when it comes to getting their breakfast!
So, what do you think? Have you ever knitted a shawl? What are your favorite things to knit? I think one day I'd like to knit up some mittens. I'll have to wrap my mind around it first though :)

I've never made a shawl, but I have made several scarves, socks and sweaters. I used to be a big fan of knitting, but I have a repetitive-stress injury in my right wrist, so no more knitting for me. :-(

Your shaw did turn out beautiful and I love the sweet clip or pin? Shown holding it together! I agree that it is very chic for wearing first thing in the morning for feeding animals! I am working on knitting socks this year and having success albeit slowly!! They sure take me a lot of time with 3 needles! But I am getting more used to working in the round and the current pair is going better than the previous ones.
ReplyDeletei am a person who loves to knit, but i do not have a talent or patience to follow the patterns. usually i just crochet and knit scarfs ans shawls, rarely finishing anything. i will try to knit this shawl, it is beautiful! and i do remember dear Tasha wearing shawl like this in winter time upon her coat.

ReplyDeleteAww, I'm sorry! I know how frustrating that can be. I have joint issues too. When its bad I ache from my shoulder down every joint down to my fingers. I find that rest and hot baths and ice packs help it. I'm already wearing myself out, everything i like is hand intensive!
Winnie- thank you! I think I got that pin from my grandma. I've been wearing it on my coat lapel but it was useful for this little shawl! I am always so impressed with sock knitting! It sounds so complicated to me!

ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous, such a wonderful colour. I've never knit a shawl, but I'd quite like to have a go at a lace one, it's just taking me some time to pluck up the courage. I'm still addicted to sock knitting at the moment, I've got another pair of the needles at the moment.
